Gaspésie Quad Tour 2024 – Day 6

gaspésie quad tour

Our Gaspésie quad tour is unfortunately coming to an end. This morning, we are leaving Mont-Saint-Pierre under a cloudy sky. Unfortunately, the predicted showers did not materialize. We will therefore have to deal with dust once again.

Breathtaking Views

However, the magnificent viewpoints quickly make us forget this minor inconvenience. Indeed, we made stops at several locations to admire the unique landscape overlooking the Mont-Saint-Pierre valley. These spots are approximately 400 meters higher than the town.

A Small Detour

Sometimes, I leave the group to get ahead of them. This allows me to take photos of the participants as they pass by. What I didn’t know was that there was a broken bridge on our route. Our guides had planned a detour that wasn’t on my GPS.

Naturally, when I reached the impassable bridge, I turned back. I was able to return to the last point where I had seen the group. I eventually rejoined the support team, who were looking for me.

We finally had to take Route 132 to rejoin the trail at Rivière-à-Claude.

In the Distance, the Chic-Chocs

Around 9:30 AM, the sun returns. We are then traveling at a few hundred meters altitude. In the distance, we begin to see the Chic-Choc mountain range. Our group weaves through this vast territory filled with branches and paths.

Lunch Stop

Around 12:30 PM, we stop by a lake for lunch. As we eat, we can see the sky starting to cloud over. Some clouds look quite threatening, and a few people have heard thunder in the distance.

Just fifteen minutes after we resumed our journey, we saw dark clouds to the north and glimpsed a few lightning strikes. We’re in for it!

As for me, I had doubts about the intensity of the coming rain, so I left my rain gear packed away. Mistake! We were treated to a full-blown thunderstorm. In less than two or three minutes, I felt the water soaking through my clothes. It’s important not to confuse water-resistant with waterproof. I ended up completely drenched for the rest of the trip. Fortunately, we only had about twenty kilometers left to go.

Last Evening of Our Gaspésie Quad Tour

Around 3:30 PM, we arrived in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, where we will spend the night. After bringing in our luggage and taking a nice hot shower, we gathered for our final dinner together. This gave us the chance to share some anecdotes from the day before heading to our rooms for the night.

Tomorrow, we will complete our tour of the Gaspé Peninsula by heading towards Amqui.

The adventure so far…
