CAN-AM DEFENDER RECOVERY RIG: A MOBILE RESCUE WORKSHOP HITS GLAMIS!
Glamis, California, October 27, 2026 – Can-Am, an iconic brand of BRP Inc., has unveiled its custom-built Defender Recovery Rig, a specially equipped vehicle designed to provide technical assistance, mechanical repairs, and recovery services to off-road enthusiasts attending the annual Halloween weekend gathering at the Imperial Sand Dunes in Glamis, California.
Built on the heavy-duty Can-Am Defender 6×6 Limited platform, this impressive machine serves as an all-in-one mobile mechanical workshop, recovery vehicle, and communications hub.
Operating in some of Glamis’ most popular areas, including Oldsmobile Hill, Old Wash Road, Osborne Overlook, and Competition Hill, the Defender Recovery Rig will provide free assistance to off-road riders, regardless of vehicle brand.
A Fully Equipped Mobile Recovery Workshop
The Can-Am Defender Recovery Rig takes full advantage of its massive six-foot converted cargo bed and 3,000-pound towing capacity to carry an extensive collection of recovery equipment, repair tools, and essential replacement parts.
Equipped with genuine Can-Am accessories, including a Kinetic Recovery Kit, various LinQ racks and cargo boxes, and a complete audio system, this custom Defender is designed to handle demanding desert conditions.
The build also features Makita tools and specialized components from Sandcraft and Metal FX.
Key Features of the Can-Am Defender Recovery Rig
Heavy-Duty Recovery and Towing
The Defender Recovery Rig features high-capacity front and rear winches, heavy-duty snatch blocks, and kinetic recovery ropes.
This equipment allows the recovery team to upright overturned side-by-sides and tow disabled vehicles through deep sand.
Whether a vehicle is stuck, damaged, or unable to move under its own power, the Defender Recovery Rig is designed to provide assistance directly in the dunes.
On-Site Diagnostics with B.U.D.S. 3
The vehicle is equipped with BRP’s B.U.D.S. 3 diagnostic software, allowing technicians to troubleshoot mechanical and electronic issues in the field.
The system can identify electronic fuel injection (EFI) fault codes, inspect sensor readings, and evaluate the operating condition of various electronic systems.
This capability helps technicians diagnose issues without immediately transporting the vehicle to a traditional repair facility.
Complete Desert Tire and Wheel Station
Tire problems are common when navigating demanding off-road terrain, particularly in deep sand.
To address these situations, the Defender Recovery Rig carries a comprehensive tire repair and inflation setup, including:
- A high-CFM air compressor;
- A high-volume compressed air storage tank;
- Rapid beadlock service tools;
- Heavy-duty tire plug repair kits;
- Equipment for emergency tire bead seating, repairs, and inflation.
This mobile tire station is designed to help riders get their vehicles back in action as quickly as possible.
Starlink Satellite Connectivity
One of the Defender Recovery Rig’s most interesting features is its roof-mounted Starlink satellite terminal, which provides an open mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.
For riders stranded in remote areas without cellular coverage, this connectivity can make a major difference.
It allows users to contact their camp, access trail maps, and coordinate emergency assistance when conventional communication networks are unavailable.
Essential Trail Parts and Fluids
The mobile workshop is also stocked with frequently needed replacement parts and maintenance supplies.
Its inventory includes:
- Rotax drive belts;
- Radius rods;
- Tie rods;
- A-arms;
- Radiator patch kits;
- Coolant;
- Complete mechanic tool chests.
Having these components readily available allows the mobile team to address a variety of common mechanical issues without requiring riders to leave the dunes.
Emergency Jump-Starting and Auxiliary Power
The Defender Recovery Rig also features an auxiliary dual-battery management system and high-output jump starters.
This equipment allows the crew to provide emergency power and jump-start vehicles with depleted 12-volt electrical systems.
Free Assistance During Glamis Halloween Weekend
Operated by the Can-Am Mobile Pit Crew, the Defender Recovery Rig will travel throughout the dunes during Glamis Halloween weekend, offering dedicated on-trail assistance to off-road enthusiasts.
Riders requiring mechanical assistance or recovery support can contact the team directly by text message at (262) 888-3207.
Services will be available daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29 through Saturday, October 31, 2026.
This initiative highlights Can-Am’s commitment to supporting the off-road community by offering practical assistance where riders need it most.
And perhaps most importantly, the service is open to everyone, regardless of the brand they ride.
More Events Planned for 2027
Following its appearance at Glamis, the Can-Am Defender Recovery Rig will continue supporting off-road enthusiasts at several major events across the United States.
Its scheduled appearances include:
- 2027 King of the Hammers – Johnson Valley, California;
- 2027 Mud Nationals – Burkeville, Texas;
- 2027 UTV Takeover – Hurricane, Utah;
- 2027 Glamis Halloween – Imperial Sand Dunes, California.
