So, itโs no surprise that the Maverick R platform will make its official debut this coming January at the Dakar Rally. The Dakar Rally, formerly the Paris-Dakar Rally, is one of the toughest and most prestigious off-road endurance races in the world! Established in 1978, this monumental event has become an annual tradition, except in 2008. Typically held in January, the race spans approximately 8,000 kilometres (5,000 mi) over 12 days.ย The next Dakar Rally is set to start on January 3, 2025, culminating on January 17. This epic journey takes place in Saudi Arabia.
An Edition to Exceed Expectations
This yearโs Dakar Rally promises to be incredibly exciting for fans! Marking the 47th edition of the rally, the race will cover a total distance of 7,700 km (4,800 mi), including 5,100 km (3,170 mi) of timed stages.ย The route begins in Bisha, traverses the Rubโ al Khali desertโnicknamed the โEmpty Quarterโโand ends in Shubaytah. For 2025, the organization has added a 48-hour timed stage and a marathon stage, elevating the challenge and the thrill.
A Triumphant Return for Can-Am!
The 2025 Dakar Rally marks the Maverick Rโs debut as an FIA-homologated vehicle. Launched for the 2024 model year, this revolutionary side-by-side has already enjoyed significant success in iconic desert races like Vegas to Reno, Silver State 300, and Baja 1000. South Racing has also tested the Maverick R in select rally-raid races in the experimental category. This new Can-Am platform has shown incredible potential.

Since 2018, Can-Am and South Racing have secured six consecutive Dakar Rally wins. The 2025 edition marks a new chapter, as all previous victories were achieved with the proven Maverick X3 platform.
This year, the Can-Am Maverick R will be a formidable competitor, featuring ultra-durable high-leverage suspension, a high-performance seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a turbocharged Rotax three-cylinder engine. Itโs perfectly suited for Saudi Arabiaโs rugged terrain.
