Pre-ride analysis: 2022 Polaris Ranger SP 570 Northstar edition

After almost 9 months of waiting (welcome to this new reality where patience is a must) I finally received my new 2022 Polaris Ranger SP 570 Northstar edition in January.

During my shopping process, my priority was definitely the utility side for the cabin without neglecting the fact of having some comfort for the rides. In fact, I bought the vehicle based on the advice of my dealer, my research and also because the Polaris Ranger 2-seater series was undergoing a major facelift. The model had not changed aesthetically since 2015. They wanted to give the same aggressive look on the front end as its big brother the Polaris XP 1000.

Before starting to use it at the chalet, I wanted to review the features of the 2022 Polaris Ranger SP 570 Northstar Edition and help you understand why I chose this model.

Engine

The engine used is a well-proven one-cylinder ProStar® of 567 cc with electronic injection that develops 44 horsepower. The exhaust system has been modified to be less noisy for the passengers. Polaris had received many complaints about this with the previous generation.
The major change for 2022 is in the clutch. We now use a more robust pulley that ensures better durability and smoothness at low speeds. Many parts of the clutch are shared with the full size Ranger 1000.

The 2×4 or 4×4 on-demand drive system is accessible via an easy-to-reach button on the dashboard. VersaTrac® “Turf” mode is standard. This mode allows for a shorter turning radius without damaging the turf if that’s your need. The towing capacity is 1500 lbs which is very practical for a use at the chalet or on the farm for example. The 2 inch trailer hitch is standard.

Suspension

The front and rear shocks that equip the 2022 Polaris Ranger SP 570 are Sachs® shocks. They are adjustable according to your needs and in my opinion, well adapted to the type of use of the vehicle. The front suspension offers a 9 inches travel while the rear is 10 inches.

The tires that equip the vehicle are 25x8x12 in the front and 25x10x12 in the rear on all models of the Ranger SP 570 range. Ground clearance is 10.5 or 11 inches depending on the model chosen. The width is 56 inches, which allows it to be transported in the box of a standard 1500 series truck.

Interior

Several changes for 2022, notably for the dashboard that has been moved forward to give more room to the passengers.

The central dial is also new and can be adjusted according to the driver’s information needs. The seats are also more comfortable than the previous generation.

The storage spaces are multiple. The glove compartment is very spacious and airtight, perfect to protect our stuff from dust. Under the seat, there is also a huge storage bin that is super practical and removable for easy cleaning.

The utility box

The tilting cargo box is now 30% larger than the previous generation. It can receive a multitude of Lock & Ride® equipment exclusive to Polaris. There is a hook at the four corners of the box to secure the load. The load capacity is 500 lbs.

What exactly is the Northstar edition?

In fact, I chose this edition because it offers a very complete level of original Polaris equipment for my needs and it is installed directly from the factory.
Another important factor to consider is the purchase price. It would cost a lot more to have them installed individually at the dealer.

In summary, the Northstar Edition on the 2022 Polaris Ranger SP 570 includes:

  • Proshield® enclosed cab and heating system. Manual opening door windows.
  • 3500 lbs winch with synthetic cable and automatic shut-off.
  • High capacity battery to allow for additional equipment.
  • ITP Terra Cross R/T tires with distinctive alloy wheels.
  • Noise-reducing roof liner.
  • Glass front and rear windshields.
  • Front wiper system with washer.
  • Sport hardtop.

Conclusion

With the summer season starting, I will have the opportunity to do a more exhaustive test drive at the cottage. I will therefore be able, by the end of the season, to share with you the pros and cons of my new purchase. I’m really looking forward to testing it in both leisure and work situations.
