ToggleAt the time of writing, Can-Am has just unveiled its 2027 ATV lineup. I was expecting quite a few things for the new model year, and I have to admit I was completely wrong. What Can-Am presented was actually very different from what I had anticipated!
That said, I am still excited about several of this year’s new features. Rather than completely reinventing its ATV lineup, Can-Am has focused on optimizing its range, adding more standard equipment and making a few strategic changes.
Here is what you need to know about the 2027 Can-Am ATV lineup.
2027 Outlander PRO: Can-Am Simplifies and Optimizes the Lineup
Can-Am continues to evolve the Outlander PRO family with several changes for the 2027 model year.
The first thing I noticed is that Can-Am has simplified the different versions, making the lineup easier to understand. Personally, I prefer this new naming structure.
For 2026, we had the base model, the XU and the Hunting Edition. For 2027, the base model becomes the PRO S, while a DPS model is added to the lineup, with a MAX version also available. The Hunting Edition disappears in favor of the XT, which is also offered in a MAX configuration.
In my opinion, this makes the lineup much easier to understand.
Can-Am is also adding four standard accessories for the 2027 model year, improving the overall equipment-to-price ratio. I would have really liked to see mirrors and heated grips included as well, at least for the Canadian market!
Here is essentially how the 2027 Outlander PRO lineup is structured.
Outlander PRO S
The PRO S includes:
- Front and rear bumpers and A-arm protectors;
- Cruise control, engine modes and iEB intelligent engine braking;
- 26-inch, 6-ply tires;
- Four new standard accessories: trailer hitch ball mount, fender flares, handguards and footwell protectors;
- Granite Grey or Sandstone color options.
Outlander PRO DPS
The PRO DPS includes the features of the PRO S and adds:
- DPS dynamic power steering;
- Availability in a MAX
Outlander PRO XT
The PRO XT builds on the PRO DPS and adds:
- A 3,500-lb winch with synthetic rope;
- Aluminum wheels fitted with XPS Trail King tires;
- Visco-4Lok front differential;
- USB charger;
- A selection of colored, painted or camouflage finishes.
Can-Am is not necessarily reinventing the Outlander PRO for 2027. Instead, the manufacturer is making the lineup easier to understand while providing owners with more equipment right from the dealership.
Outlander 1000: The 850 Gets a New Name
Another interesting change affects Can-Am’s larger-displacement models.
For 2027, Can-Am is renaming the Outlander 850 as the Outlander 1000. In my opinion, this makes a lot of sense considering the engine’s actual displacement is 999 cc.
In fact, I am currently working on an article about my test of last year’s Outlander 850, and this was one of my comments about the machine.
The new Outlander 1000 therefore becomes the model producing 82 horsepower and 66 lb-ft of torque, while the 1000R remains at the top of the lineup.
You’ll be able to read my review later this season. The ATV itself remains essentially the same, aside from its new name.

10.25-Inch Display, Increased Towing Capacity and Other 2027 Can-Am Updates
Beyond reorganizing the lineup, Can-Am is introducing several other noteworthy improvements for 2027.
A 10.25-Inch Display on More Models
Can-Am is adding its 10.25-inch display to selected models, including the Outlander XT 1000 and 1000R, as well as the Backcountry 1000R.
The larger display helps modernize the cockpit while making important vehicle information easier for the rider to access.
Removable Passenger Seat for the Outlander G3L MAX
The passenger seat on the Outlander G3L MAX is now removable.
It may sound like a relatively minor change, but it is a useful improvement for owners who want to quickly adapt their ATV depending on whether they are riding alone or with a passenger.
More Towing Capacity for the Outlander 6×6
The Outlander 6×6 lineup sees its towing capacity increase from 1,830 lb to 2,475 lb.
That is a significant increase and further strengthens the 6×6’s utility credentials. Can-Am also presents this towing capacity as an industry benchmark.
For riders who actually use their ATVs for work, hauling equipment or pulling a trailer, this improvement may prove far more important than a simple cosmetic update.

New Colors for 2027
As with every new model year, Can-Am is introducing several new color options throughout the lineup.
The Outlander XT-P, Limited, and selected youth models are among those receiving new color schemes for 2027.
Outlander X mr MAX: The Big News for 2027
Now we get to what I consider the highlight of the 2027 lineup.
The Can-Am Outlander X mr is now available on the longer MAX platform while retaining a single-rider configuration. Its wheelbase is approximately 8 inches longer than the short-wheelbase version.
That makes for a particularly interesting combination.
Can-Am promises increased stability and comfort with this new configuration. Personally, I am especially curious to see how it performs in mud and snow compared with the shorter-wheelbase model.
A longer wheelbase generally improves straight-line stability and can also help a vehicle work its way through certain deep mud ruts and steep climbs.
However, there is another side to the equation.
The additional length can come at the expense of some maneuverability and also adds weight. In deep mud, there is also a greater possibility of getting the underbody hung up on the terrain as the wheels sink, potentially reducing their ability to maintain traction.
It will therefore be particularly interesting to compare the two configurations in real-world conditions.
I was also surprised to learn during the presentation that X mr models reportedly account for 46% of Outlander sales. If the figure shared by Can-Am holds true, it is easy to understand why the manufacturer has decided to expand this family.
I suspect this new MAX-platform Outlander X mr will therefore prove very popular with mud enthusiasts and riders looking for more extreme off-road capability.

A Conservative 2027 Lineup, but a Smarter One
I think Can-Am took a relatively conservative approach with its ATV lineup this year. We did not see the major shake-up some enthusiasts may have been expecting, but that does not mean the changes are insignificant.
In my opinion, reducing some of the complexity within the lineup and adding more standard accessories to the Outlander PRO can only be beneficial.
By doing so, I believe Can-Am becomes more competitive against some of its rivals while addressing a fairly straightforward customer demand: getting more for your money right from the moment you purchase the vehicle.
And speaking of what customers have been waiting for, I personally would have really liked to see Can-Am unveil a new-generation Renegade, along with the return of an X xc version, a designation historically well known among performance enthusiasts of the brand.
Unfortunately, it is not happening this time around.
Still, with Can-Am continuing to invest heavily in the development of its off-road vehicles, future announcements will certainly be worth watching.
Personally, I really hope a new Renegade will be among those upcoming releases.
And ideally… sooner rather than later!
