Review of the CFMoto 2021 CForce Overland 1000

In the last few weeks, I had the chance to do a short test ride, thanks to CFMoto Canada, of the CForce Overland 1000. I have to say that it had been a long time since I had ridden an ATV. My last ride was about 15 years ago on a 1997 machine, so there is nothing like it.

I realized that the bad reputation of this manufacturer in its early days was still in people’s minds. However, this myth that persists and that is difficult to demolish is no longer the reality for the last five or six years. Indeed, in the first years, we could notice some shortcomings with the brand, but CFMoto products seem to have improved a lot since then.

Like some people, I didn’t have many expectations. However, after 176 km in total, my idea has changed completely. Here is why:

First, I was surprised by the size of the machine. With its 94.3 inches length, 49.7 inches width and 56 inches height, it’s still impressive and it has a nice look.  Moreover, it is well equipped compared to other manufacturers’ machines, which is a big plus in terms of economy. It comes equipped with :

– a 3000 lb winch plus a skid plate;

– a passenger seat;

– two trunks (The attachment system for the trunks is easy, fast and does not require any tools);

– mirrors and hand guards;

– a windshield;

– a protective plate underneath;

– front and rear bumpers;

– Trailer receiver (vehicle tows up to 873 lbs);

– LED lights, turn signals and 14 inch wheels;

Front and rear disc brakes provide good stopping power.

Its gas shocks, adjustable in compression and rebound, combined with its electric power steering give us an ease to maneuver the vehicle.

To charge our phones or anything else, a 12V cigarette lighter and two USB plugs are installed on the vehicle.

Its CVTech (variable pulley transmission) clutch system, made here in Quebec and proven for many years on small recreational vehicles, is reliable, robust and maintenance-free.

It has a HI-LO gearbox with 2 or 4 wheel drive with electric differential lock.

The gear arm locks with the key. You can’t move the lever while doing this action. This prevents theft or a child putting it in neutral and the vehicle moving.

Its 963 cc 4-stroke V-twin engine gives it 74 HP. Personally, I would have liked to have experienced a more blistering start, but that is not the case. However, it has a lot of height, which compensates a bit for my disappointment during my starts.

Its fuel consumption is between 12 and 13 liters per 100 km, which seems reasonable considering the weight of the machine which is 1080 pounds. The 30-liter fuel tank capacity gives us a lot of autonomy.

What could be improved is the access to the oil sensor, which is located behind a protective cap on top of the left footboard. You have to undo it and replace it afterwards and it’s a bit difficult I would say.

So, from what I’ve seen and from my limited experience with today’s ATVs, I’d say this is an interesting and surprising ride. So, for those looking for versatility in an ATV, don’t fear the CForce Overland 1000 from CFmoto. This is a machine that is very versatile and equipped to go on long rides with or without a passenger on any type of terrain. It can be a work machine in my opinion too. Moreover, it comes with a 5 year warranty (full for 1 year and 48 months or 5000km on the drivetrain.) On that note, enjoy the ride!
