Is Fall the Ultimate Season for Quad Riding?
Fall is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful times of the year for quad enthusiasts. The trees adorn themselves with their most splendid colors, offering a visual feast for our eyes.
Furthermore, dust becomes less of a nuisance, mosquitoes disappear, and the temperature becomes more moderate. It’s, in my opinion, at least, more enjoyable to traverse the forest on a quad during this season.
Naturally, as we progress into the autumn season, temperature fluctuations become increasingly pronounced. It’s not uncommon to start the day with frost on the ground, only to experience intense heat in the afternoon, and then end the evening with a chilly breeze. Dressing appropriately can sometimes pose a real challenge.
My Secret Weapon of Recent Years
For the past two or three years, I’ve found a solution to remain comfortable throughout the day without constantly changing. Up until this spring, I wore the ewool Pro+ heated jacket (read my review…).
Although I greatly appreciated the ewool Pro+ heated jacket, some aspects needed improvement, especially for my specific use.
My New Secret Weapon
Since this spring, I’ve been testing the latest ewool heated jacket: the Metro. I’ve truly fallen in love with this product. The Metro is made of fleece, making it thinner, lighter, and more flexible than the Pro+. Consequently, I find it definitely more comfortable to wear.
The battery size is much smaller than that of the Pro+, and you barely notice it, similar to carrying a cell phone in a pocket on the side of the jacket. The Metro offers 3 heating levels and up to 5 hours of battery life.
A Strategic Button Placement
Another advantage of this jacket is the placement of the activation button, integrated and hidden at chest level. Simply hold the button down for a few seconds to activate it. You can determine the heating level by the number of vibrations emitted by the jacket when you press the button.
No smaller LED lights, and no need to glance down at your waist. The number of vibrations allows you to keep your eyes on the trail.
My Experience
Of course, I’ve worn and used the jacket during chilly mornings in recent days. I wore it under a jersey all day but only turned it on when I felt the cold.
The moment I appreciated the jacket the most was last June. It was during a cold, rainy day in the heart of Gaspésie. I wore the jacket directly under my rain gear, allowing me to ride comfortably throughout our 200 km journey. Consequently, I didn’t need to layer up with numerous clothing items to stay dry and warm.
Compatible Charger and Cable
Another positive aspect of the ewool Metro heated jacket is that its battery can be charged using any USB charger. There’s no need for a “special” charger or cable. Personally, I used the same charger as my cell phone.
Other Uses
The jacket can be used in various other contexts. Its practical for motorcycling, camping, and even fishing. I also recommend it for hunters who spend long hours in their blinds or stands.
As for me, I’ll continue testing this jacket during my snowmobiling adventures next winter.
