ToggleThe manufacturer Segway is on a roll, and we are witnessing its impressive progress. The InfoQuad team got their hands on the brand-new Segway Fugleman UT10 Crew, and Iโm now ready to share my test review with you. Weโre already familiar with the Fugleman, Segwayโs flagship utility side-by-side. However, the American manufacturer has decided, for 2024, to push the boundaries once again by introducing a six-seater Crew version. In my humble opinion, this was the missing link in Segwayโs utility lineup.
A Side-by-Side Designed Primarily for Utility
The new Fugleman UT10 Crew essentially retains the components and features of its predecessor, with the main difference being the doubled seating capacity. However, letโs be realisticโsix full-sized adults might feel quite cramped in this vehicle. Iโm aware that this version of the Fugleman wonโt shine on a racetrack, and clearly, thatโs not its purpose. Still, youโll have a reliable ally for transporting up to six people in various scenarios.
Speaking of size, this utility vehicle doesnโt do things halfway. Its dimensions, in fact, left quite an impression on me. The Fugleman UT10 Crew boasts a respectable length of 13ย ft. Its 64 in width remains standard for this type of vehicle. I love side-by-sides with an almost oversized length; their trail handling is exhilarating! When I take a corner at an excessive speed, the rear end slides out almost instantly, allowing me to align it perfectly with a good throttle adjustment.
My only point of concern is its relatively high centre of gravity. Some caution is advised to avoid a potential rollover. Overdoing it with the throttle in a sharp curve could be problematic.
Powerful Engine of the Segway Fugleman UT10 Crew
The engine powering the Fugleman UT10 Crew is the same as the one in the standard version. Itโs a 1,000ย cc four-stroke twin-cylinder engine. I was amazed by its striking 105 horsepower. Just compare its technical specs with those of its competitors, and youโll quickly realize it outperforms them. On the field, you need to be cautious with the throttle because this engine packs quite a punch. In my opinion, having this much power in a utility-class side-by-side almost feels like a sin.
The 105ย hp engine of the Fugleman UT10 Crew also provides everything you need for enjoyable trail rides with family and friends. For comparison, many competing sports quads have less power.
An Exhaust Note That Reveals the Engineโs Power
Pressing down on the gas pedal produced a roar that fully revealed the vehicleโs capabilities. It brought a smile to my face every time; the engine sound is truly satisfying. At times, when I closed my eyes, I even wondered if I was behind the wheel of the Segway Villain. In fact, thatโs not entirely wrong, as they share the same engine.
However, I do wonder about its stealth potential for hunting. The game will definitely hear you coming. In that regard, a quieter exhaust would be preferable. Nevertheless, youโll never be short on power with this quad. Once again, Segway has raised the bar for the competition in the utility side-by-side category.
Fugleman UT10 Crew: A Utility Side-by-Side That Gets the Job Done
A Spacious and Comfortable Utility Side-by-Side for Everyone
Letโs talk about the utility aspect of the Fugleman UT10 Crew. First off, this side-by-side can tow up to 2,500ย lb and haul up to 1,000ย lb in its rear cargo bed. With that kind of capacity, youโll be able to tackle even the toughest jobs with this vehicle.
The cargo bed tilts easily and smoothly thanks to a hydraulic jack. That said, I find the loading height a bit high. Adding a heavy load could require extra effort, in my opinion. On the plus side, the large glove compartment offers ample space for carrying a variety of tools or equipment.
The surprisingly spacious cabin provides plenty of head and legroom for all passengers. If you feel cramped in this cab, you must be a giant! Thereโs so much open space, especially around the protective roll cage, that I wonder if shaving off a few inches wouldnโt be a good idea.
In short, space is definitely not an issue in this quad, believe me!
Two Driving Modes
When it comes to adaptability, the Fugleman UT10 Crewโs engine offers two driving modes. This is another great feature of this utility side-by-side. You can switch between Eco and Sports modes, allowing you to choose the one that best suits the terrain and your driving preferences.
Onboard Technology Perfect for Hunting and Fishing
Also, nature lovers will appreciate the advantage of the new Segway Powersports mobile app. It now allows you to track your path using its GPS function. This way, you can, among other things, return to the spots where your catches were most successful. Hunters and fishers will notice a marked improvement in their adventures with the Fugleman UT10 Crew.
Fugleman UT10 Crew Doors: Durability That Needs Rethinking
Itโs true that the Fugleman UT10 Crew shares many similarities with its single-seat predecessor. However, there are a few notable differences, the most striking being the choice of materials for the doors. Why did Segway use metal panels to cover them? The entire vehicleโs body is made of glossy black plastic, while the doors have a matte finish. To me, thatโs baffling. With continuous use, these doors are likely to get scratched, causing the paint to peel. Eventually, the exposed metal will rust, and the doors will lose the aesthetic appeal they were meant to have.
I would have preferred hard plastic covers like those on the original single-seat version. This would have allowed the Segway Fugleman UT10 Crew to maintain a clean, attractive look for a longer period.
Adjustable Comfort and Practical Features
In terms of comfort, this utility side-by-side impressed me. First, the driverโs seat is fully adjustable. Then, the steering wheel tilts to accommodate operators of all sizes.
I also had easy access to all the vehicleโs functions. Furthermore, Segway has included several additional switches, which come in handy if you decide to add accessories.
Lastly, I loved having a rearview camera for backing up. This version doesnโt come with a beeping sound indicator, but honestly, I was fine with that.
The Segway Fugleman UT10 Crew: A Benchmark for Utility Side-by-Sides
In conclusion, I really couldnโt ask for more from this manufacturer. By introducing the Fugleman UT10 Crew, Segway has brought to market a six-seater utility side-by-side that already raises the level of sophistication in this category to a whole new level.
