ToggleLet’s be honest: ATVs have come a long way since they first hit the market. This evolution touches every aspect of these machines, but especially their power. This year, manufacturers have reached new heights in terms of horsepower. So, I’ve put together a list of the most powerful ATVs for 2025.
Why Choose a Powerful ATV in 2025?
Before we begin, let me reassure you of one thing. Some people find these high-powered engines unreasonable. To be clear, I’m not here to glorify hyper-powerful ATVs. That said, there are situations where the extra power can be used appropriately.
We also have to admit that modern ATVs are more playful than ever. In a recreational context, the sporty character of these machines is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. I’ll admit it—I’m one of those who always want more. That’s the perspective I had in mind when writing this article.
Here are the top 3 most powerful ATVs in 2025
- Can-Am Outlander 1000R
- Segway Snarler AT10
- Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 S
2025 Can-Am Outlander 1000R: The Reign Continues
Let’s start with the 2025 Outlander 1000R from Can-Am. But before getting into its engine, I have to highlight the arrival of the Gen3 platform and its impact on the vehicle. This year marks the debut of the new Gen3 platform. Some would say it was about time, as the Gen2 chassis dated back to 2012. The new Outlander chassis is stronger and designed for better balance. To achieve this, the rear trailing arms have been replaced with control arms, including large lower rear arms to handle bigger impacts. Their placement puts them just behind the differential, while the front arms are slightly set back, mounted just behind the engine. This results in better approach angles, ensuring more stable ride quality for the Outlander.
An Industry First
Did you know that the Can-Am Outlander 1000R is the first ATV to break into triple-digit horsepower? A 999 cc Rotax V-Twin engine produces 82 hp (60 kW) in the 850 model, while the same engine in the 1000R delivers 101 hp (74 kW). This difference is due to engine optimization rather than displacement.
With more power comes more responsibility, of course, so Can-Am has also upgraded the brakes on the new Outlander. Hydraulic disc brakes with dual pistons are featured on all four wheels of the 1000R.
This new 1000R engine is available in several 2025 Outlander trims. Whether it’s the X MR, XT-P or other models that feature this engine, it’s definitely a quad that will instantly put a smile on the face of anyone who gets behind the handlebars.
The new 2025 Outlander measures 88.4 in. (224 cm) long, 48.5 in. (123 cm) wide, and 49 in. (124.5 cm) high without accessories. With a full tank (5.1 gal/19.3 L) and all fluids, Can-Am lists the Outlander at 1,000 lb (454 kg).
The new Outlanders retain Can-Am’s distinctive look, now with a slightly more aggressive design. No doubt it will continue to please brand loyalists!
Segway Snarler AT10: 1,000 cc of Pure Fun
Last year, Segway announced its Snarler 1,000 cc quads. The manufacturer didn’t hold back, offering Snarler AT10 versions with an impressive 96 hp. Is this bold for a new player in the market? Maybe—but who’s complaining?
The Snarler AT10 is Segway Powersports’ first large-displacement quad and promises strong performance. We were already familiar with the Snarler AT5 and AT6, but a bigger version was needed to take the brand to the next level. The real evolution of this new model lies at the heart of the chassis. With a reverse-mounted twin-cylinder engine (similar to the AT6), mass distribution is improved, resulting in much more dynamic handling.
As usual, Segway offers well-equipped versions. The new Snarler AT10 is no exception, featuring hand guards, front and rear racks, 14-inch alloy wheels, a winch, and LED lighting. Of course, it’s equipped with the Smart Moving system that allows you to adjust power steering assistance, collect machine data, and even track the vehicle’s location in real time.
Offered in three versions, the one that stands out to me is definitely the “MUD” edition. It lives up to its name with specific equipment such as a raised radiator on the front rack and two elevated air intakes. And with four oversized mud tires, it’s clearly built to tackle the harshest terrains.
Currently, there’s no word yet on when this quad might arrive in Canada. However, I’ll definitely be among the first to take it for a full test ride when it does. Stay tuned…
Polaris Sportsman XP 1,000 S: A Powerful and Rugged ATV
At Polaris, the most powerful ATV right now is the Sportsman XP 1,000 S. This premium ATV delivers outstanding performance with a 55-inch width. It’s even wider than some side-by-sides (such as the Can-Am Maverick Trail) currently on the market. It also features 27-inch Duro Powergrip tires and an impressive towing capacity of 830 kg.
But what you’re really interested in is its power output. It delivers an impressive 89 hp thanks to its 952 cc ProStar engine. While this engine hasn’t changed, it’s already a benchmark in the 1,000 cc ATV class and has proven itself many times over. It’s responsive and lively, but still easy to control. This engine can be considered a leader in the 1,000 cc category, delivering both excitement and smooth operation.
Its phenomenal suspension travel reaches 12 in. up front and 14 in. at the rear, allowing it to glide over rough terrain. Built on a tubular frame that’s 31% thicker, it can easily tackle any obstacle. It also inspires confidence with its Ranger XP 1,000 front differential and drive shafts. With a 14.5-inch ground clearance, it remains easy to handle even on the most rugged trails. This ATV is also lightweight, weighing only 970 lb, making it highly maneuverable across all types of terrain.
Are These Powerful ATVs Accessible to Everyone? Not Really…
The ATVs mentioned above are the most powerful models available in 2025. They shine when used in situations where extra power is truly needed. However, if you’re in the market for one of these machines, keep in mind that they are definitely not intended for beginners. But if you’re an experienced rider, you’ll more than get your money’s worth.
