TogglePolaris is launching two new models today, the RZR Pro R and the RZR Turbo R 2022. The manufacturer is breaking all the limits that the industry has been used to over the years. Polaris had prepared the groundwork so that we wouldn’t get choked up during this unveiling day. Indeed, a few weeks ago, they announced the launch with an impressive video of RJ Anderson (Read… ).
Let’s now take a closer look at what’s new on the RZR Pro R 2022 that caught my attention the most…
225 hp 2 liters engine !
You read that right… Not only does Polaris exceed the maximum displacement in the industry, but it goes full throttle with the new 1997cc ProStar Fury 4-cylinder engine developing an impressive 225 hp. This engine is naturally aspirated, so no turbo or supercharger. By the way, this is not the engine of the Slingshot as some people were implying!
We have access to three driving modes to manage the engine’s performance: Race, Sport and Rock climbing.
In order to transmit all this power to the tires, Polaris introduced a new pulley set and a bigger drive belt. Polaris also worked on the air circulation to cool the pulleys and the belt. The goal is to ensure the reliability of the components even when the machine is pushed to the maximum.
74-inch frame
Considering that this machine is likely to be pushed even harder than other RZRs, it is equipped with a reinforced chassis and one-piece protection cage, a stronger transmission and suspension. The vehicle is also off the charts in terms of size, with a 74-inch width and 133.5-inch wheelbase.
From what we can see in the photos and videos, the suspension and drivetrain components are more massive in order to withstand the potential abuse they may receive.
The brakes have also been revised. We find larger discs. The brake system includes three calipers in the front and two in the rear for each wheel.
The Ultimate version includes the Dynamix system, which has also been greatly improved. This new version is called DYNAMIX DV and allows for real time suspension adjustment. This new iteration adjusts the compression and rebound at each of the shocks to ensure maximum control and comfort even on the most difficult terrain.
This system will also adjust the power steering behavior to provide increased feedback especially in rock climbing mode.
There are also three traction modes available. There are the familiar 2×4 and 4×4 modes, but also a 4×4 mode with a locked differential that provides a 1:1 ratio to each wheel.
Ride command
Naturally, the RZR Pro R is equipped with the Ride Command system. This system allows you to form a group with your friends and interact with them. For example, you can know the position of everyone directly on the map that is displayed on the screen. You can also send messages in case of breakdown or other unexpected stop. This system continues to improve by adding or refining its features periodically.
Accessorization
Polaris has made agreements with many suppliers so that they can offer a complete range of accessories from the launch of these RZR. As of today, between 70 and 80 accessories are already available. Doors, sound system, LED bars, mirrors, there are plenty of options to personalize your RZR.
In a class of its own
As you can guess, we’re not talking about a touring RZR here, but practically a competition machine. In Quebec, as well as in many other provinces and states, auto-quads are limited to a displacement of 1000cc. We can therefore wonder how we will be able to register this RZR with the SAAQ.
Polaris, by pushing the limits, undoubtedly wants to create a new market for hyper-sporty Super-Ultra side-by-side. However, this market would be reserved for enthusiasts who can afford them. The RZR Turbo R and RZR Pro R start at $32,299 and $39,699 CDN respectively.
Availability at dealerships
According to Polaris, the RZR Pro R should be available in early 2022, while we’ll have to wait until spring to see the first RZR Turbo R. To learn more about the new RZR Pro R 2022, visit the manufacturer’s website by clicking here.
