509 Tactical Helmet
Since this summer, I started testing my new Tactical helmet, provided by 509. This one is the result of this company’s desire to offer a quality helmet at an affordable price.
Upon receiving the helmet, I found it to be a nice looking helmet. It fits my head well, it is very light thanks to its polycarbonate outer shell. It is probably one of the most comfortable helmets I have ever worn.
It has a dual-density foam liner that provides advanced crash protection in the case of an accident. The front chin area of the helmet is protected by a specially designed expanded polyurethane chin insert that offers protection against frontal impacts.
It also has integrated front and top intake vents and rear exhaust vents. The aerodynamic visor has a lockable top center support that holds the visor in place and prevents unwanted visor movement.
This helmet and the 509 brand goggles, which I was also provided, are products designed to be used together. The glasses provided for this test are the KINGPIN XL model with yellow tint and the REVOLVER model with clear lens (Nightvision).
KINGPIN XL 509 All Terrain Goggles (my favorite)
The XL version of the 509 Kingpin goggles has 20% more face foam for maximum warmth and coverage in extremely cold conditions, according to the supplier. I’d add that they’re more comfortable because of it. They come with a quick change anti-fog and anti-scratch dual pane lens.
Paired with this helmet, I found the combo to be perfect and very comfortable even when it wasn’t cold. The non-slip silicone lined strap keeps them securely in place on the helmet. The yellow tinted lens provides great vision. I love them.
REVOLVER 509 All Terrain Goggles
The Revolver goggles have a double lens that is also anti-fog. They offer a good field of vision. The upper center of the lens is attached to the goggle frame, which allows the lens to be rotated upward to quickly wick away any accumulated moisture while not riding without removing the goggle, which is very thoughtful. The non-slip silicone lined strap keeps them securely in place on the helmet.
I found that they didn’t fit as well on the helmet and that some dust got into my eyes. This is probably due to the foam which is less wide than on the KINGPIN XL. Note that they are also available in XL version, so it would be worth considering for the purchase.
My tests were done in September, so at the end of the summer. I would not hesitate to recommend these purchases. For my part, I think they are very nice products for ATV riding.
