For 2022, Can-Am has made several changes to the VCC lineup, even in the core of some of them. Three new engines are presented to us, including one that is completely redesigned from scratch by Rotax engineers.

If we start with this one, it is a new single-cylinder Rotax ACE 700 engine producing 52 HP. It offers more power and more torque, even at lower rpm, than the Rotax 800 V-twin that was previously in the Defender HD8 version. For Can-Am’s new entry-level engine, it’s no longer “entry-level” when it outperforms an 800 engine. ACE advanced combustion efficiency technology, dual camshafts, electronically controlled ITC intelligent throttle and electronic fuel injection are the reason for this performance. Moreover, thanks to these elements, the break-in period and the frequency of valve adjustments will be reduced. Also, the first maintenance is no longer necessary, so there is nothing to do as maintenance before the first 3,000 km. This engine will replace the HD5 to become the HD7 in the Defender range and will offer 37% more power. It will also be on the Commander 700 and the Maverick Trail 700 with a sporty calibration. The engine is less noisy, less vibrating and less hot, in order to offer more comfort and pleasure to the drivers.

Another change for the Defender lineup is that the HD8 engine will become the HD9. The HD9 is bigger and will offer more power than its predecessor which offers 65 hp. We’re talking about a 30% increase in power and better low-end torque. It will be integrated in the Defender and Defender max. Also, this engine will be less noisy, less vibrating and less hot in the cabin than the previous HD8 version.

As for Can-Am’s beast, the X3, the RR turbo engine is now up to a whopping 200 horsepower, making it the first production VCC with that much power.

The increase is 5 horsepower over the 2021 version. Adjustments have been made to the engine calibration which has improved performance. The RR turbo engine will now be available in all Maverick X3 lines, increasing the offering for performance enthusiasts.
