A promising test drive of the CFMOTO ZFORCE 950 TRAIL 2023!

You’re probably under the impression that we’re constantly talking about the manufacturer CFMOTO, in all media. You’re absolutely right. The truth is, CFMOTO is a fixture in the motorized recreational vehicle landscape.

Our response to this allegation is: why not? Right from the start, the marketing team responds instantly when we contact them for access to their fleet of test vehicles. Well, why should we miss out on the opportunity?

Constantly Evolving…

Over the past few years, we’ve witnessed a number of changes at manufacturer CFMOTO. The new models leave no one indifferent. The Z950 is a good example of design pushed to the extreme. Not really, but we do agree on one thing: CFMOTO is the opposite of passive.

Our Test Model:

We’re lucky enough to have our hands on the brand-new CFMOTO ZFORCE 950 TRAIL 2023 for a long-term test. Our analysis will be spread over several months, allowing us to put it to the test under a variety of conditions.

Why did we choose this model?

CFMOTO Canada gave us a choice of several models in its 2023 line-up. However, we chose the ZFORCE 950 TRAIL because it’s a completely renewed and redesigned version. We’ve tested the old version many times in the past. So, we’re in a position to give you a comprehensive comparison of this new version of CFMOTO’s renowned ZFORCE model.

Let’s go back in time…

It’s worth mentioning that the ZFORCE chassis has been presented to us since 2014. In the year of its introduction, if you recall, it was known as the Snyper 800, then in 2015, the ZFORCE name was introduced. Since then, apart from a few modifications here and there and the introduction of a 500 and a 1000cc, this chassis has been the basis for CFMOTO vehicles in this category.

CFMOTO ZFORCE 950 TRAIL 2023:

We’ve got to be honest, the new ZFORCE’s new chassis and appearance elicit an instant “WOW”. It reminds us of striking similarities with the Can-Am Maverick, so much so that at first glance, these distinct models can be confusing.

However, the body lines are more rounded, giving it a sportier look. This aspect sets it apart from its predecessor.

The front end is more pointed and tapered. We can’t wait to see if it gives us better forward vision when climbing hills.

Being the TRAIL version, its width is 50 inches. This means it will be possible to squeeze through winding trails with ease. It will probably be an asset when used in an environment requiring an agile, narrow vehicle.

However, remember that its 50-inch measurement seems to have been calculated at the wheels. According to the manufacturer’s datasheet, the Fender extensions set the limit at 54.5 inches. As soon as we have it in hand, rest assured that we’ll debunk this discordant aspect.

Door’s worthy of mention!

Finally, half-doors cover the entire lower section. Owners of side-by-side vehicles prefer half-doors that protect them from debris and dirt. CFMOTO understands this preference, and we salute it. What’s more, a streamlined exterior handle allows quick access. It’s about time! We no longer have to fumble for the handle on the inside of earlier models.

Complete Equipment.

In the past, CFMOTO has accustomed us to well-equipped vehicles. This one is no exception. It comes standard with a roof, 3500 lb winch, integrated LED indicators, side mirrors… and so on. Once again, these are the vehicles that offer the most when they leave the factory. We’ll have plenty of time to test their functionality during our long-term test drive.

A Completely Redesigned Interior.

In my opinion, the previous version of the ZFORCE had several shortcomings, and we can’t wait to see if these have been corrected. Firstly, to adjust the position of the seats, we had to remove them and use an Allen key (which we had to look for in the vehicle). This was neither functional nor quick.

Secondly, I was not at all a fan of the center-mounted dial. In the new version, the dial is mounted in front of the driver and adjusts in correlation with the steering wheel’s height. It’s quite simply a step forward in this respect!

Thirdly, the old version didn’t meet my ergonomic criteria. Even with the seat in its rearmost position, my right knee was very close to the dashboard. This aspect sometimes caused me discomfort.

As a result, I have very high expectations of this completely redesigned and renewed interior. We spend many hours in our vehicles, and comfort is one of the criteria often raised by enthusiasts. What’s more, I’ll be able to give you a fairly exhaustive picture of the space available for 2 good-sized adults in a subsequent article.

Its Motorization.

We’re delighted to have our hands on the TRAIL 950. In fact, it’s the 963-cc engine we’re already familiar with. Is it suitable for this narrower version? Is its power too high for this vehicle’s vocation? We’ll soon find out once we’ve done our first laps around the wheel.

In conclusion, we have a number of questions that we’ll be able to answer and pass on to you very soon. As you can see, we’re very excited about this vehicle, which has the reputation of being a success story in the world of leisure vehicles. No doubt we’ll have plenty to talk about, so stay tuned!
