Here we are, after a few months of waiting, some thirty quad riders have gathered in Amqui to take part in the Tour de la Gaspésie en quad 2023. These enthusiasts come from all 4 corners of the province. They all converged at Amqui’s SelectOtel, where they spent the night before departure.
So, this morning, the participants were feverish as they finalized the preparation of their quads and luggage.
It’s a Departure!
At 8:30 a.m., our group set off. Direction: Motel Interprovincial, Pointe-à-la-Croix.
Our first stop of the day was the Belvédère de la Chute à Philomène. This site is increasingly popular with quad riders, but also with tourists in general. So, it’s no surprise to me that the municipality of St-Alexandre-des-Lacs has undertaken the construction of a welcome station where visitors can learn more about this tourist attraction.
We then headed for “Matapédia et les Plateaux” in the MRC d’Avignon. During this segment, we saw the damage caused by last December’s high winds. A multitude of trees, mainly spruce, were uprooted, broken and even uprooted. In some places, you can see tree tillers on the ground.
Fortunately, over the past few weeks, many volunteers have been working hard to clear the paths of the trees that were blocking the way. Our group witnessed all the work being done. It’s quite impressive.
The Second Part of the Day
For lunch, we stopped off at the Camp de Bucherons in St-François d’Assise. It’s a very welcoming place, and the meals are delicious. A lovely place to discover.
The afternoon’s program was pretty straightforward… We drove towards our final destination, Pointe-à-la-Croix. A few kilometers from our destination, we stopped for a few minutes at a beautiful viewpoint to contemplate this part of the country.
That pretty much sums up this first day, which was fairly quiet in terms of punctures or notable events… Tomorrow, I’m expecting us to experience a few unforeseen events. The Gaspé is sure to have a few surprises in store for us.
